2020 Winter Musical Auditions

1776 the musical

Auditions for 1776 will be held on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 4 p.m. in the Kevin Kline Theatre.

Auditions will be comprised of a movement audition, a vocal audition using music made available from the production, and cold readings from the script. Audition music for men and women is now available for download.

The cast is primarily male, as the Continental Congress was in 1776. There are 25 male roles. The following roles do not sing and are featured roles in the production: John Hancock, Caesar Rodney, Col. Thomas McKean, Charles Thomson, Rev. John Livingston, Joseph Hewes, Dr. Josiah Bartlett, Lewis Morris, James Wilson, George Read, Samuel Chase, Dr. Lyman Hall.

There are two female roles, who both have solo songs. Abigail Adams and Martha Jefferson are typically Mezzo Sopranos. Abigail is a much larger role. She appears in multiple scenes with her husband, John Adams, who is the narrator and principal male role in the show. Martha is in one scene with one song. Her role does involve some dancing (the waltz).

The production opens Presidents' Day weekend and runs Feb. 13-16. There will be a student matinee for the Junior School students on Wednesday, Feb. 12, during the afternoon. Priory students in the cast will be dismissed from their afternoon classes that day. The girls in the cast will have to be available that day from approximately 1-4:30 p.m. Rehearsals begin on Tuesday, Nov. 12, and will take place from 3-5:15 p.m. during the week and 1-4 p.m. on Sundays. ALL CAST MEMBERS WILL NOT ATTEND ALL REHEARSALS. (The rehearsals with the girls will begin after school whenever they can get to Priory from their school!)
