Ann Raley Attends the Educational Theatre Association Conference
Fine Arts Department Chair Ann Raley recently returned from the Educational Theatre Association's national conference in Las Vegas. Ann has been a member of the organization since she began teaching.
"Initially, as a new teacher, the group introduced me to the broad spectrum of Theatre Arts programs from across the U.S.," she said. "Now, as a veteran teacher, and long-time member, I continue to be amazed and challenged by the changes in educational theatre." This year's conference theme was diversity and inclusion of all students in theatre education.
Ann said one big benefit of conferences like this is the opportunity to learn about new techniques, new classroom activities, and new materials. At this year's gathering, she learned some new ways of attacking script analysis.
"Part of the joy of being gathered with other people in your field is picking each others' brains about what goes on in the classroom and on the stage," she said.
While attending the conference, she and other local theatre teachers decided to start a regular meet-up here in St. Louis to share ideas and resources and build their networks.
