Bishop Rice to visit the Sodality
Twice annually, the students in the Sodality of our Lady invite guest speakers to join them for lunch and a conference. Brother Dunstan, the moderator for the Sodality, announced this week that Bishop Edward M. Rice will be joining the students on Wednesday, November 19. Hopefully, Bishop Rice will be able to attend the 7:45 a.m. meeting before speaking to both junior school and high school Sodality students during their lunches.
Sodalities were created by the Jesuits in the 16th century to foster devotion to the Blessed Mother in schools for boys. Our Sodality welcomes all students. Each meeting begins with a prayer to Our Lady of Walsingham and the chaplet of the virtues of the Blessed Mother. This is followed by a reading from the Sodality Rule and a reflection prepared by one of the boys or by Brother Dunstan. After the reflection, the group welcomes open petitions, announcements and a final prayer. The service concludes with the Hymn to Our Lady of Walsingham, the patroness of the Priory Sodality. Refreshments are served, and on special days the boys organize breakfasts (Mary's birthday, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, and the Induction). The Sodality hosts a number of the Wednesday morning prayer assemblies for the students and faculty. Last year, the group hosted Lessons and Carols during Advent, Reflections on Mary at the Foot of the Cross during Lent, the Induction Ceremony of new members when they received the pilgrim badge of Our Lady of Walsingham and a May Crowning at which new officers were inducted. Students in both the High School and Junior School serve as officers.
