Dress Down Day for St. Joan of Arc School - New Orleans
Thursday, Sept. 3 is a Dress Down Day to benefit St. Joan of Arc Catholic School in New Orleans. Please read the note below from Matt Rhodes, '10, about why they need our help:
I am currently a teacher in Notre Dame's Alliance for Catholic Education, which places teachers at under-resourced Catholic schools throughout the country. I teach 5th, 6th, and 7th grade English, Latin and Religion at St. Joan of Arc Catholic School, an elementary school in New Orleans. It is a voucher school, which means that about 95% of students have applied to use their public school money to attend. Consequently, St. Joan of Arc receives federal funding each year to stay open. Both breakfast and lunch every day is provided due to the socio-economic class we serve. Many of my students love to read, but there is not a huge selection at the school's library. We would be so appreciative if you could donate money this Thursday so that we could buy class sets of books to read together this year. Your support can go a long, long way to helping these kids become lifelong readers. Thank you for your generosity. Laus Tibi Domine.
