Excellence in Mathematics Competition 2016
On Saturday, Nov. 5, 9 students competed in the Excellence in Mathematics interscholastic competition at St. Louis Community College-Forest Park.
Six juniors competed, and for the third year in a row they won 1st place as a team among juniors in division 1 ("We pulled a 3-peat," team member Sohan Kancherla joked). The junior team was made up of Jack Eppolito, Adrian Fedorko, Sohan Kancherla, Brett Phelan, Ian Rosebrough, and Arron Zheng.
Four of the juniors also placed in the top 10 individually: Arron Zheng 10th place, Brett Phelan 8th place, Ian Rosebrough 7th place, & Sohan Kancherla 3rd place.
The junior team presented their trophy to Father Gregory at the STUCO assembly on Nov. 14.
Freshmen Carson Brame and Sean Moen and sophomore Joey Gioia also competed and gained valuable experience and understanding of what to expect at the contest in the future.
"We are still looking for strong math competitors for future competitions, especially since Priory has established itself as a considerable force to beat at these competitions throughout the year," Sohan said. "If you are interested in joining the Math Olympiad club, contact me or Dr. Kalhorn."
Congratulations to all participants!
