Form I Forest Park Field Trip
Dear Form I Parents,
The days are getting shorter, the weather is getting cooler, and aquatic ecosystems are ripe for scientific study. This year, Form I students will be doing an interdisciplinary field trip to Forest Park. Similar to past field trips, our seventh grade students will be studying pond ecosystems at the Forest Park Fish Hatchery. Dissimilar to past field trips, this trip will also include a visit to the Missouri History Museum where students will be learning about the World’s Fair and their sense of place living in St. Louis. Buses have been ordered and we will be renting fishing poles from the Missouri Deptartment of Conservation. This will be a day-long trip that will provide our Form I students with experiential learning in science, math, English, and history.
The trip will take place on Friday, Oct. 28, 2016. We will leave Priory at 8:15 a.m. and return to school at 4:30 p.m. Sack lunches will be provided. The boys will be missing their normally scheduled classes and sports. Equipment is provided for the boys to use and Priory teachers will be traveling along to direct the boys in their field and museum studies.
It is my hope that some parent chaperones will attend to help with crowd control, distributing lunches, and fishing assistance for the boys. If you would like to attend but prefer not interacting with live animals, that is doable. If you would like to help our novice anglers learn how to fish, that would be wonderful. We usually have good weather, but it is not guaranteed. The field trip proceeds rain or shine.
Things the boys should bring include:
- Outdoor footwear
- Outdoor clothing
- Water bottles - no potable water at the ponds
- Some pencils
- Rain Gear - just in case
- Hat & sunblock – optional but we will be outside for half of the day
- Fishing pole - not required but some boys like to bring their own pole (poles and tackle should have name tags attached to them)
A permission slip, which also includes chaperone information for parents, can be downloaded from our website and should be turned into Mrs. Lane no later than Friday, Oct. 17, 2016.
