Priory recently hosted six exchange students from Lycée Sainte Marie in Beaucamps-Ligny, France. Priory alumnus Steven Francisco, '93, works for the school and has led these visits to St. Louis for the last several years. Priory’s day and in-home hosts now have the opportunity to visit France next summer, and are welcome to stay with their French guests.
On October 13, Priory welcomed Thomas Delassault, Julien Devaux, Auxence Freville Deberdt, Alexandre Le Goff, Théo Monsterleet, and Sylvain Rémy. The students enjoyed a variety of activities from field trips with their group and with their host families to an average day in the life of a Priory student, including attending classes and practicing in after-school sports.
Mr. Francisco offered his thoughts on this year’s trip:
The French group arrived on Thursday, 13 October, jet lagged yet euphoric, ready for a new experience. Every morning during their visit, the French boys from Lycée Sainte Marie would arrive at school with smiles on their faces, ready for a new day at Priory. They loved hanging out with their hosts, attending various classes and going to sports at the end of the day. Father Francis had some great day trips organized for them, including visiting the St. Louis Zoo, the Lemp Mansion and the Science Center, and each day was an adventure. They even got to have the best BLTs in the world at Crown Candy Kitchen. The boys all had an unforgettable experience. They felt so welcome in their host families’ homes and at Priory. When it was time to go, a few French boys joked about losing their passports so they could stay longer at Priory. One student, Alexandre Le Goff, even said: “This is heaven!” So, from the French team, thanks again, Priory, for such a warm welcome. We can’t wait to see some of you in France at the end of May!
Host Mom Mrs. Ann Telma also shared her experience:
We had a lot of fun with Thomas! He was very sweet and got along well with both my older and younger sons. Father Francis had the schedule really well planned out, too. The trip overall is the perfect length of time for the students to enjoy themselves and also not too burdensome for the host families. We really enjoyed having Thomas, and I think he enjoyed his time here as well. We would definitely do it again!
Many thanks to our host families for so generously welcoming these students into your homes, and to our day hosts for showing Benedictine hospitality at school. Father Francis has different hosting options available throughout the school year; please contact him at firstname.lastname@example.org to learn more.
