Host an Exchange Student from China/Taiwan
We are excited to let you know that this year we are expanding the Winter China Program to again include students from both Taiwan and main land China. We are in need of host families for their short two-week stays in St. Louis. The two programs are not an exact match, since their winter holidays are slightly different. Taiwanese students (six of them) arrive on January 31st, Saturday, and depart around February 16th. Chinese students (six of them) arrive a week later, most likely on Sunday, February 8th and depart around Sunday, February 22nd.
This is an exciting opportunity for you and for your son, especially if he is in the Mandarin class. While practicing Mandarin is a direct benefit of hosting, the joys of learning about a different culture, displaying Benedictine hospitality, showing off Saint Louis, and making new friends are all part of the experience. We hope that you will be generous in opening your home and your family for this two-week experience. The time really does go by quickly and the boys spend most of their day in school or on school related trips.
Several parents, who presently have boys in the school, have hosted in the recent past and they can share with you what it is like. In fact, at least two sets of parents have said that hosting two students at the same time is almost easier than hosting one. While the Taiwanese boys are here, they will also be involved in helping out at Xanadu, doing whatever their host brothers are doing. Weekends are left for family outings and boys are expected to be a part of the family during their stay. They all speak English and they love to do American things.
If you are interested in hosting, please email me (firstname.lastname@example.org) or call me on my cell (636-489-8247). I would love to hear from you. I put together a complete itinerary for the boys during their stays, sharing it with the parents, and we also assign a day host to each boy.
Gratefully and Hopefully,
