Washington University Researcher Guest Lectures for Chemistry Classes
On Wednesday, Sept. 23, Dr. Ken Kelton, Director of the Institute of Material Science and Engineering at Washington University, visited Mr. Orlando’s Honors Chemistry class and Mr. Gleich’s AP Chemistry class. Dr. Kelton discussed his current research into the structure of amorphous materials (specifically, metallic glasses), the relationship between solid structures and the nucleation barrier, and quasicrystals. Students examined exothermic hand warmers during the seminar, helping them understand the explanation of crystallization in solids and nucleation. Click here for more information on Dr. Kelton’s research.
Many thanks to Dr. Kelton for his time, and for inspiring Priory students with science research!
