This post is current as of noon on Thursday, July 22
Dear Priory Families,
Peace be with you! I hope you have been enjoying your summers and are starting to look forward to the beginning of the new school year. Below are some important pieces of information that will help you to prepare for the Fall.
The State of Missouri is urging all eligible students to receive two doses of a COVID vaccine before returning to school in August (https://covidvaccine.mo.gov). We will respect each family’s choice in this matter and will welcome all students back to campus regardless of vaccination status. If you have received a vaccine, we will ask you to provide documentation along with other relevant health information in order to assist with contact tracing in the future (instructions to follow in a later email). Students who are vaccinated and have submitted evidence of vaccination to the school will not be required to quarantine or self-isolate if exposed to COVID during the year.
Masks will be optional in most circumstances, although students are expected to carry a mask with them at all times and should cooperate with school personnel if instructed to wear them. Possible situations in which masks might need to be worn temporarily include school-provided transportation to retreats, athletic practices, and games. Athletes will not need to wear masks outside or while competing and practicing indoors.
In classrooms, there will be three feet of distance between the centers of student desks in order to maintain physical distancing according to CDC guidelines.
All school facilities will receive a deep clean once a day, according to current professional standards.
These provisions are subject to change according to the lawful orders of public health officials.
Lunch, Mass, and Formal Attire
A full buffet lunch will be served each day in the dining hall; additional seating and shelter will be provided outside for the warmer (and drier) months. A fuller range of options will be made available to satisfy all ages and temperaments!
The entire school will celebrate Mass together on Friday mornings. Occasionally, Mass will move to a different day of the week to celebrate a special event.
Coat and ties are back! Please remember to send your son to school in formal dress on days when we have Mass.
Along with the return to all-school Mass and a normal lunch, Priory will also return to a 5-day schedule with seven periods each day. 7th and 8th Grade athletics will return to their traditional timing in the early afternoon, and space will be provided in the mornings for all-school prayer and Student Council assemblies. Click here to download the details of the new schedule.
Online Learning and Attendance
All students will be expected to attend classes on campus, unless asked to quarantine for reasons of public health. We will provide online access to courses in these situations.
Textbooks & Online Store
If you have any questions or concerns about your course assignments or schedule, please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Tim Malecek.
MyPriory Health Forms
Beginning this year, we will no longer be using Magnus Health to store medical forms. We will begin using medical forms located in MyPriory. The forms will be available for completion by Friday, July 30. Parents will see that the forms are available when they log in to MyPriory. The top of the page will have a yellow banner announcing the availability of new forms.
Laptops will be available for pickup for new and returning families from Monday, Aug. 24 to Wednesday, Aug. 26 between 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Staff will be stationed near the lobby of the main academic building just outside of the Kevin Kline Theatre (the same place as last fall). Students should be present in order to confirm that they can log in to the laptops. Priory’s IT staff will be on hand to correct any problems and answer any questions you may have. If you are unable to make any of these times, please contact us at email@example.com to make alternative arrangements.
Key Back-to-School Events
School will reopen with the Raven Round Up on Monday, Aug. 23. This community event provides us with a chance to catch up with one another and celebrate together. More information is available below.
Thursday, Aug. 26 is the first day of school with the Opening Mass at 8:15 a.m. in the Abbey Church, followed by a picture of our Form I students with Father Cuthbert. All students should wear a coat and tie. We will follow a shortened schedule.
On Friday, Aug. 27, we will begin our morning with a discussion with our students about their Summer Reading and conclude with a Pep Rally. All students will be dismissed at 3 p.m. Here is a link to the Summer Reading assignments.
