What is Tutoria?
The Tutoria program is a distinctive and particular opportunity for students to engage the Scriptures through the Benedictine practice of Lectio Divina, a prayerful reading of God’s Word “with the ear of the heart.”
Modeled on the practice of the Manquehue Apostolic Movement’s program, Tutoria is a wonderful opportunity for students to get to know one another and God better, and to bridge the gap that can exist between classes. They listen attentively to the Word of God in the midst of a community with the goal of growth in spiritual friendship and relationship to God.
Each Thursday morning, volunteer tutors from the High School meet to meditate on the Gospel of the day with groups of Junior School students. They pray and ‘echo’ their reflections on what the Spirit is communicating to them through the Scripture. They then have the opportunity to share informally about their experiences of school and growing up.
Tutoria fosters a spiritual friendship and a relationship that both the High School and Junior School boys value and carry with them for their whole time at Priory.
The Manquehue Apostolic Movement is a community of Catholic laypeople in Chile that is affiliated with the English Benedictine Congregation. The Movement runs three schools in Santiago that send exchange students to Priory nearly every year. Priory also sponsors summer trips to Chile for students to see the Manquehue movement in action.
